Doctoral programmes

This site provides you with the information you need about the doctorate programmes, the procedures, the living conditions, our quality standards, as well as other information so that you can orient yourself and have as pleasant a stay as possible among us. For any further information or clarification you can contact us at the Doctoral and Postgraduate School service.

What do they consist of?

According to RD 56 de 2005, the official doctoral studies represent the third cycle of university studies and have as their objective the advanced training of doctoral students in research techniques. They also include the elaboration and presentation of a doctoral thesis that consists of an original research work. The successful completion of this cycle is rewarded with the Doctorate certificate that represents the most advanced level of higher education, and qualifies the holder for research and teaching, in conformity with the current legislation.

Who are they directed to?

Once the student obtains a minimum of 60 credits in the official postgraduate programs or upon obtaining an official Masters’ degree, he/she can apply for admission to a Doctorate as long as they would have completed a minimum of 300 credits in their combined graduate and postgraduate university studies.
The admission of students to the doctorate programs will also take place in conformity with the procedures and criteria established by the university.

Duration

The duration of doctoral studies is not strictly regulated but is recommended to be completed over an average period of three years.

Cost

Considering that the URV is a public university, the prices applied are public prices determined by the Generalitat de Catalunya, within cost ranges established by the Spanish state.
