Universitat Rovira i Virgili

Foreign students and visiting professors

• Presentation

The Rovira i Virgili University is the public university of the southern regions of Catalonia, with campuses in Tarragona, Reus and Vila-seca.

The university tradition in the region dates back to the 16th century. In 1991, several centres merged to form a new university that bears the name of Antoni Rovira i Virgili, former president of the Parliament of Catalonia.

The region enjoys a high quality of life: a mild Mediterranean climate, sea and beaches, mountains and exceptional beauty spots such as the Ebro delta. It is home to medium-sized cities with a privileged cultural legacy, such as Roman Tarragona (on the World Heritage List), and modernist Reus. These cities offer leisure and free-time activities to suit all tastes. Strategically located in an important communications network, the region is home to the largest chemical complex in southern Europe, one of the leading tourist sites on the continent and many important industries.

Today, the Rovira i Virgili University has 11 centres, where 1,200 teachers and researchers provide quality teaching to 12,000 undergraduates and more than 300 PhD students attend a wide range of courses in all areas of knowledge: social sciences, humanities, experimental sciences, health sciences and technology.
More than 800 senior and junior researchers are involved in research at the Rovira i Virgili University. Ours is the fourth of the twelve universities in Catalonia in terms of scientific production, behind only much larger universities. Funding from competitive R+D projects and collaboration with 250 universities in 40 countries ensure a high quality of scientific production in numerous areas of knowledge, such as biomedicine, chemistry, oenology, technology, chemical engineering, anthropology and prehistory.

Today, only a few years after its creation, the presence of the Rovira i Virgili University has transformed the economic, social and cultural life of the area. We invite you to visit us and our privileged region.
