Presentation

Training in the neurosciences is interdisciplinary, ranging from Molecular Biology to cognitive studies and neuroimaging. This Master's Degree aims to provide future basic and clinical researchers in neurosciences with the essential knowledge to approach problems translationally and work in both public and private laboratories.

Admission requirements

The Master's Degree coruses are open to anybody with an official university qualification, even Spanish or foreign (this foreign degree must enable you to be admitted to postgraduate studies in the country where you obtained it).

In addition, universities in charge of the organization of a Master can establish those procedures and requirements considered necessary to be finally admitted to the Master. Therefore, as well as having a previous official degree, you should get informed about additional conditions and selection criteria which may have been addittionally established by each Master.

Contents

Course taught in: Catalan, Spanish and English (10%)

The Master's Degree in Neurosciences consists of four specific training modules and one module of research and professionalization. Students must choose their subjects with the guidance of the coordinator of the Master's Degree in their tutorials. The Master's Coordinating Committee will recommend students to matriculate on an extra leveling module or additional credits if they believe it to be necessary.

Module 1 aims to teach the students the specific techniques that are used to study the nervous system. These techniques range from molecular biology, to electrophysiology and imaging and behavioural techniques.

Module 2 presents an overview of the latest molecular, biophysical and cell advances in neuronal physiology and their accompanying cells. Part of this module focuses on topics of particular importance nowadays such as addiction pharmacology.

Module 3, the physiopathology and therapy of neurological diseases, discusses the physiopathological bases of neurological and psychiatric diseases, as well as the treatment of these diseases from the pharmacological, and gene and cell therapy points of view. All of this should enable students to design and carry out research work in this area.

The last module focuses on the latest advances in the mechanisms in the human brain that generate complex behaviours such as learning, memory or other typically human behavioural features.

Specific training modules in the Master's Degree in Neurosciences:

• Techniques in Neurosciences- 10 ECTS
• Integrated Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology - 20 ECTS
• Physiopathology and Therapy of Neurological Diseases - 15 ECTS
• Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience - 15 ECTS

Research and Professional Modules:

• Experimental work in a research laboratory - 30 ECTS
