Presentation

Theoretical Chemistry has become an essential tool for research in the field of Chemistry. Using a base of physics applicable to atoms and molecules, and thanks to the spectacular development of computer science, Theoretical Chemistry can now not only interpret the behaviour of numerous chemical systems but also make reliable predictions. It is for this reason that it has now gone beyond the most academic field and has become necessary in applied research in such leading industrial fields as catalysis or pharmaceuticals.

The aim of the interuniversity Master's Degree in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry is to provide students with scientific training in the extensive field of Theoretical Chemistry, prepare them to be able to carry out rigorous research projects, teach them how to use the wide range of programs available and enable them to use these tools to design a variety of materials. It gives continuity to the interuniversity doctorate of the same name and it is therefore the previous stage for those students who wish to do a doctorate in one of the various branches of this field.

Admission requirements

The Master's Degree courses are open to anybody with an official university qualification, even Spanish or foreign (this foreign degree must enable you to be admitted to postgraduate studies in the country where you obtained it).

In addition, universities in charge of the organization of a Master can establish those procedures and requeriments considered necessary to be finally admitted to the Master. Therefore, as well as having a previous official degree, you should get informed about additional conditions and selection criteria which may been additionally established by each Master.

Contents

Course taught in: Catalan, Spanish and English

The MQTC consists of 120 ECTS credits, structured over two years.

The first year consists of a single module that aims to complement the general education in chemistry. There are 30 obligatory ECTS credits in Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry, and 30 optional ECTS credits that can be done in a wide range of subjects. Recognized to graduated in a scientist field.

The second year is structured in two modules. The first is of 30 ECTS obligatory and optional credits on Theoretical and Computational Chemistry. The second is also of 30 ECTS credits and the students have to carry out a research project as a member of one of the groups that works in the area.

Modes

To put the knowledge and the length on a level with previous student's formation, it has benn structured two possible modes:

- a complet one, composited of two courses, for those students who came from qualifications of 180 ECTS

- another one, only one course (master's second one), for those students who came from a graduation which guaranties the contents of the first course.

In both modes, master involves a research mode.

Pre-registration

The preregistration period (1st phase) will begin on 1st March and end on 30th April.

If all the places available are not taken within this period, a new preregistration period will be opened (2nd phase) between 1st and 30th June.

The preregistration must be carried out on the Internet. The online form will become operative on the first day of the preregistration period. preregistration application.

For academic questions, please get in touch with the coordinator of the Masters. For administrative information, contact the secretariat of the faculty/school that teaches the Master's Degree; if you have been offered a place in the program on the strength of a foreign qualification, the Postgraduate and Doctoral School will inform you of the documents you will need.
