Presentation

Mental health depends on a variety of environmental factors that interact with genetic factors to determine individual vulnerability. Therefore, mental health must be studied using a multidisciplinary approach.

The aim of the Master's Degree is to highlight on the impact of the various genetic and environmental factors, which range from social aspects to exposure to toxic substances or drugs for therapeutic or leisure purposes. The Master's Degree focuses on research in all the areas mentioned. Students can do any one of three different curricula: Psychiatry, Neurotoxicology and Psychopharmacology.

The aim of this Master's Degree in Research is for students to become competent in research in the field of mental health. They can choose one of three schedules: psychiatry, neurotoxicology and psychopharmacology. This interdepartmental programme (Psychology, Medicine and Surgery and Basic Medical Sciences) is designed for graduates who wish to continue their postgraduate studies in the field of mental health research. The variety of curricula and subjects enables students to study the most up-to-date scientific theories and models in the various disciplines, and acquire experience in a variety of related research methods. The research aptitude provided by the Master's Degree also includes the stimulus of scientific introspection because students will take active part in debates, presentations and discussions on the scientific bibliography. Another of the aims of the Master's Degree is to guide students towards a doctoral thesis.

Admission requirements

The Master's Degree coruses are open to anybody with an official university qualification, even Spanish or foreign (this foreign degree must enable you to be admitted to postgraduate studies in the country where you obtained it).

In addition, universities in charge of the organization of a Master can establish those procedures and requirements considered necessary to be finally admitted to the Master. Therefore, as well as having a previous official degree, you should get informed about additional conditions and selection criteria which may have been addittionally established by each Master.

Contents

Course taught in: Spanish (55%), English (40%) and Catalan (5%)

The Master's Degree programme in Mental Health: Psychiatry, Neurotoxicology and Psychopharmacology consists of 60 credits that are to be done in one year (except for part-time students who can do 30 credits in the first year and 30 more in the second).

The Master's Degree is divided into 4 modules (Leveling, Specific Content and Skills, fundamental Optional, Research and Evaluation Techniques), which are made up of a variety of different courses. Some of the subjects are obligatory if students wish to be awarded the Master's Degree, and others are optional, enabling students to adapt the curriculum to their particular interests and needs: the two options are of basic research or applied research. There will be a practical part in which students will have to carry out a research project. This is essential if the quality and ability of future researchers is to be guaranteed.

The Master's Degree has three options: Option in Neurotoxicology, Option in Psychopharmacology and Option in Psychiatry. At the same time, students can specialize in basic or applied research. Each option has a number of obligatory subjects that students must do. Depending on their educational background, students will be required to do some subjects or others in the leveling module.

Pre-registration

The preregistration period (1st phase) will begin on 1st March and end on 30th April.

If all the places available are not taken within this period, a new preregistration period will be opened (2nd phase) between 1st and 30th June.

The preregistration must be carried out on the Internet. The online form will become operative on the first day of the preregistration period. preregistration application.
