University Official Master's Degree in Translation and Intercultural Studies

Participating institutions

Rovira i Virgili University

Compulsory student mobility: attendance at other universities is not required

Presentation

The two-year Masters provides advanced specialized training in the concepts and research techniques of Translation Studies, focusing on non-linguistic aspects.

All seminars and exercises are in English. The teaching staff comprises leading researchers in Translation Studies from Europe and the US.

The courses have been offered since 2000 as part of the PhD program in Translation and Intercultural Studies. Spanish legislation now requires us to organize these first two years as a Masters.

The annual intake is limited to 20 students.

At least half the students are expected to go on to complete a doctoral thesis in the PhD program Translation and Intercultural Studies. Successful completion of the Masters program will be required before the PhD can be begun, but acceptance into the thesis-writing stage is not an automatic consequence of gaining the Masters

Admission requirements

The Master's Degree coruses are open to anybody with an official university qualification, even Spanish or foreign (this foreign degree must enable you to be admitted to postgraduate studies in the country where you obtained it).

In addition, universities in charge of the organization of a Master can establish those procedures and requirements considered necessary to be finally admitted to the Master. Therefore, as well as having a previous official degree, you should get informed about additional conditions and selection criteria which may have been addittionally established by each Master.

Contents

Program taught in: English

The courses provide training in the following areas: empirical research methodology, research technologies, translation analysis, analysis of audiovisual translation, effects of human-language technologies, research on translator training, research on interpreting, research on literary translation, participation at conferences, and a minor dissertation.
